We Optimised Ourselves. And Forgot About Each Other.

The part that doesn't get said enough

Think about your favourite barista. The one who seems genuinely unhurried, actually warm, not performing it. You leave that coffee shop feeling slightly different than when you arrived. Your nervous system just co-regulated with theirs.

Think about the colleague who stays grounded in the meeting where everything is on fire. Their regulated state is literally available to everyone in the room. The people around them have more access to their own thinking brains — more capacity for clear decisions, genuine listening, measured responses.

Now think about the reverse. The team member who arrives already at capacity, bringing the low-grade activation energy of someone who hasn't properly come down from yesterday. Nobody chose to absorb that. But everybody did.

We have become incredibly focused on optimising ourselves. Sleep tracking, HRV monitoring, supplement stacks, meditation apps, morning routines, therapy, breathwork. All of it genuinely valuable. None of it wrong.

But somewhere in the relentless pursuit of personal optimisation, nervous system regulation quietly became a solo project. Something we do for ourselves, in private, to become a better version of ourselves — alone.
